BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass college shooting that would have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive School, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division stated in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no college that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive gadget supplies and threatening to commit a criminal offense which will result in dying or nice bodily injury.

Police stated they acquired a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a capturing that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teen was a pupil at Berkeley High College.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they discovered elements to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and digital objects that could be used to create further weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"College security stays a high precedence for the department," police said in a statement. 

Details on whom the teen was trying to recruit were not disclosed. Police stated this case remains below investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens instructed the school's group that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teenager's weapon parts, the district relied on police expertise to evaluate any potential ongoing threat to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the scholar's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this era, we alerted our administrative and security staff about this investigation and, as is our customary observe, maintained close contact with our BPD Faculty Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley High Faculty campus," Stephens wrote. "All through the investigation period, we were assured that this particular person did not pose a right away risk to the Berkeley High Faculty neighborhood."

The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter. 

The district could pursue disciplinary motion towards the student. 

In addition, a city corridor assembly titled: 'Learn how to Talk to Youngsters About Faculty Violence' provided by Alameda County Workplace of Schooling is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
