BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass school taking pictures that might have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive Faculty, police say. 

The teen was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Department stated in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no faculty that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing damaging gadget materials and threatening to commit a crime which will lead to loss of life or great bodily harm.

Police mentioned they acquired a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teenager was a scholar at Berkeley High Faculty.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they found elements to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and digital items that could be used to create further weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

"School security remains a excessive precedence for the department," police mentioned in a statement. 

Particulars on whom the teen was making an attempt to recruit were not disclosed. Police mentioned this case stays beneath investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens told the college's community that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon elements, the district relied on police expertise to assess any potential ongoing risk to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the scholar's whereabouts.
