A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to carry out a mass shooting, authorities mentioned.

In a statement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace mentioned it had learned earlier that day of a "threatening textual content message" despatched by a scholar at an elementary school.

It said its local college threat enforcement crew was immediately notified and started investigating. The ten-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written threat to conduct a mass taking pictures," the sheriff's office mentioned.

In video shared by authorities, the boy will be seen being led into a police vehicle.

“This student’s behavior is sickening, particularly after the latest tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno mentioned in a press release, noting that the menace came simply days after the lethal faculty taking pictures at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 college students and two academics lifeless.

“Proper now is just not the time to act like a little delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he mentioned. “This child made a pretend risk, and now he’s experiencing actual consequences.”
