SACRAMENTO, Calif. >> A suspect on the run since a mass capturing left six individuals lifeless during an alleged gang dispute in California’s capital city final month has been arrested in Las Vegas, authorities stated.

Investigators believe Mtula Payton was one of the alleged gang members who opened fireplace in downtown Sacramento on April 3. He was taken into custody at an house complex, the Sacramento Police Department stated in a statement Saturday evening.

“Las Vegas Metro Police Department labored with our detectives for weeks in an effort to find Payton,” the assertion said.

It wasn’t known Sunday if Payton has an lawyer who may communicate on his behalf.

Payton and two others, brothers Smiley Martin and Dandrae Martin, were charged this month with murder within the slayings, as well as weapons offenses.

Investigators provided no motive but mentioned in court paperwork that Smiley Martin and his companions recorded an internet video hours before the capturing, flashing guns and speaking trash from a location in rival gang territory. In it, they state their plans to go to the downtown area with the intent of opening fireplace.

Three males alleged to be gang members and three girls who had been innocent bystanders died within the shootout that occurred as patrons of bars and nightclubs emptied out onto downtown streets. A dozen extra individuals had been wounded.

Payton, who police say is a member of a rival gang, was being held in a Nevada jail pending transport again to California.
