Mother or father with hid weapon by accident shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police stated Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a concealed weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the dad or mum within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

The varsity had early launch and college students were launched on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In keeping with police, the mother or father, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His harm was not critical.

The school district mentioned White was inside the building, close to the foyer area, and not within the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers stated there was no menace made and the mum or dad did not have "malicious intent."

No students or employees have been injured. The dad or mum was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days since the Uvalde mass faculty taking pictures, there have been five circumstances in North Texas related to guns brought to varsities or threats made.

Arlington parents stated their minds immediately thought of the worst when they were notified.

No father or mother ever needs there to be a purpose for them to get a text message saying their kid's school is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not help but assume the worst when they do.

"Once I received the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something goes to happen.’ I was shocked," mother or father Karima Rasheed said.

Whereas most instances, lockdowns are only drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that understanding what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our trainer got a notification on their telephone saying somebody was in the constructing," he stated.

Guns aren't allowed on college property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with stated even when it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to highschool, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you by no means wish to be the one statistic. What if it is your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve received twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington school and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a school shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed said Thursday was the commencement day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to high school in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his faculty.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve bought to run wherever that’s protected and conceal," she informed her youngster.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned something needs to be accomplished now. 

"They want to talk about it, they wish to campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t want to really go any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
