Ungenaue und unvollständige Daten in den Meta-Elementen vermochten so irrelevante Seiten bei speziellen Stöbern listen.[2] Auch versuchten Seitenersteller vielfältige Attribute binnen des HTML-Codes einer Seite so zu interagieren, dass die Seite passender in den Suchergebnissen gefunden wird.[3] Da die zeitigen Suchmaschinen sehr auf Kriterien angewiesen waren, die nur in den Fingern der Webmaster lagen, waren sie auch sehr labil für Straftat und Manipulationen im Ranking. Um überlegenere und relevantere Ergebnisse in Ergebnissen zu erhalten, mussten sich die Besitzer der Suchmaschinen im WWW an diese Voraussetzungen adjustieren. Weil der Riesenerfolg einer Suchmaschine davon anhängig ist, besondere Suchergebnisse zu den inszenierten Suchbegriffen anzuzeigen, vermochten unangebrachte Resultate darin resultieren, dass sich die Anwender nach anderen Wege zur Suche im Web umgucken.
