Mother or father with concealed weapon by accident shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a guardian with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the father or mother in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a concealed weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the father or mother in the leg.

The college had early launch and college students have been released at the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

According to police, the mother or father, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His harm was not serious.

The college district stated White was inside the building, near the foyer area, and never in the hallway near college students when the gun went off.

Police and college officers said there was no threat made and the mum or dad didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or staff have been injured. The dad or mum was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days since the Uvalde mass school capturing, there have been 5 instances in North Texas related to guns brought to colleges or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom said their minds immediately considered the worst when they have been notified.

No parent ever wants there to be a reason for them to get a text message saying their kid's college is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help however think the worst after they do.

"When I received the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to occur.’ I used to be shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed said.

Whereas most occasions, lockdowns are only drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that realizing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I started seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our trainer acquired a notification on their telephone saying somebody was in the building," he stated.

Weapons are not allowed on faculty property, and fogeys FOX 4 spoke with stated even when it was a mistake, the timing is just horrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to school, and obviously, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, but you by no means want to be the one statistic. What if it is your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington faculty and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a faculty shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to high school in the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his school.

"If something happened, you’ve bought to run anywhere that’s protected and conceal," she advised her youngster.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is too fresh to talk politics, Mitchell said something needs to be finished now. 

"They want to speak about it, they wish to campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t need to truly cross any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
