Speaking in the dugout of the Nice American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler stated, "I don't plan on popping out for the anthem going ahead till I feel higher in regards to the direction of our country."

Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he called "the shortage of supply of the promise of what our national anthem represents."
"I'm not okay with the state of this country. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I want that I could have demonstrated what I discovered from my dad, that once you're dissatisfied along with your nation, you let or not it's known by way of protest. The home of the courageous should encourage this."
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made an impassioned plea to take stronger action towards gun violence in the United States.Kerr refused to speak about basketball forward of Game 4 of the Warriors' sequence in opposition to the Dallas Mavericks, as a substitute raising his voice as he railed towards gun violence in the wake of Tuesday's taking pictures.
"In the final 10 days, we have had aged Black folks killed in a grocery store in Buffalo, we have had Asian churchgoers killed in Southern California, now we've kids murdered at school," Kerr advised reporters at the start of the press conference.
"When are we going to do one thing? I am drained. I'm so uninterested in getting up right here and providing condolences to the devastated families which are on the market ... I'm bored with the moments of silence. Enough."
