Through the Uvalde capturing, an off-duty federal agent’s spouse texted him for help. “I requested my barber if he had a gun,” he said.

Jacob Albarado was in his barber's chair when both males received text messages about the taking pictures unfolding at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, final week. "There's an active shooter. Assist. Love you," Albarado's wife Trisha mentioned in three messages at 11:41 a.m.

She's a fourth grade instructor on the college, and their daughter is a pupil there.

"I requested my barber if he had a gun," Albarado, a U.S. Customs and Border Safety agent, informed CBS Information on Wednesday. He had attended an awards ceremony at the faculty earlier that morning and was off obligation, together with his weapon at house.

The barber did have a gun. Albarado took it, a shotgun, they usually rushed to the chaotic scene. Law enforcement officials have been already there, and Albarado started helping.

"Children are coming out the home windows," he said.

With individuals fleeing to a funeral house across the road, Albarado said he wished to get inside the varsity as fast as he might.

"I was appearing as a husband and a father," he stated.

His spouse let him know she made it to the funeral home, but she advised him their daughter was locked in a college restroom.

"I didn't know what restroom," Albarado stated.

He ultimately discovered his daughter was in a restroom situated inside her classroom. Albarado met up with two officers close to the classroom.

"We have to get the children out of here," Albarado mentioned he informed the officers. "… The shooter's over there. We need to get the children out. That is our time."

The officers began opening classroom doors, and Albarado said he guided individuals to security.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, saw my daughter," Albarado said. "Relief. Large aid."

He hugged and kissed her, and soon she was heading to the college parking zone.

While Border Patrol agents had been on the team that breached the classroom the place the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I did not have my gear, and so it would not have been a good move for me to get into the building," he said. "I did not have my vest. A shotgun's not a ok protection."

During a press conference last week, the head of the Texas Division of Public Security mentioned the college district's police chief didn't initially ship officers into the classroom where the gunman was positioned as a result of he thought it was no longer an active-shooter situation. The U.S. Justice Division is conducting a assessment of the police response.

For his half, Albarado stated he wasn't in a position to evaluate the response.

"I know my fellow officers," he said, "and … to me, coronary heart of hearts, I imagine they have been doing the whole lot of their energy they could do."
